Conductivity
As a highly conductive metal (normally 98 to 100%), copper is the least expensive
for products used in the electrical industry requiring design versatility. It's thermal
conductivity allows for dissipation of heat generated while corrosion resistance is
ideal for use in any area of the world.
Platability
Copper can be plated with silver for highly efficient performance with conductors
of electricity. It is a basic metal used to undercoat other metals to allow surface
tin plates, nickel and other alloys. It is used to help design products where heat
must be dissipated or where cooling is to be effectively controlled.
Machinability and Strength
Reading Copper shapes produces tubular products from drawn copper that provides a
high strength work hardened metal for further processing (if necessary). Copper can
be measured against standard free cutting brass. It can be alloyed in a variety of
ways to prermit the combination of properties most desired. Property tables follow
in this booklet to show the tube shapes, strengths and alloys offered.
Durability
Several copper chartacteristics combne to make it one of the most durable metals known
to man. Copper is a wear resistant metal with anti-fatigue characteristics It has
proven it can withstand the punishment of many uses that defy time, motion or friction
in use.
Forming
Of most importance to the manufacturer, is copper's ability to be formed and reformed.
It can be drawn, stamped, hammered, coined, forged, rolled, sawed, bent, drilled,
tapped and lastly, it can be joined by various methods. The grain structure of copper
is such that it is easily molded by the manufacturer to his desired product.
Finishing
The natural beauty of copper, its color and brightness, make it an ideal product to
bright dip or bright anneal. It does allow for brushing or buffing and can be easily
coated as desired. Nature has a way of making copper a thing of lasting beauty even
in its natural state.
Misellaneous
Copper itself is not a magnetic metal. It can therefore be used in the specialty fields
were desirable. It is adaptable to music because it is sensitive to vibrations when
controlled sizes and lengths are utilized. Copper can be remelted and reformed. It
is the third ranking in the list of precious metals and therefore, retains its value
in scrap for resale by the user or consumer.
